For my interview, I plan on talking to my Resident Advisor, JC Urbaez, about the controversial topic of abortion. I think it would be interesting to talk to him for many reasons. For one, a male perspective would be an interesting juxtaposition to mine. Also, men are never really bluntly asked about abortion, especially not by women. I hope to catch him a bit off guard by saying something right of the bat like “So JC, what are your thoughts on abortion?” and listen to his response but also note his expression. After that, I hope to say something like “how did you feel when I asked you that?” and again note his expressions and emotions. This is engaging Headlee’s ideas of using broad or open ended questions. I later want to talk to him about how he sees abortion through his political views, religious view, etc. Finally, I want to ask him “have any of your female friends ever confided in you about having an abortion?” If his answer is yes, I will say “What was that experience like for you?” and if he says no, I will say “why do you think that is?” and “would you be comfortable with being a pillar of support for your friends if they did want to confide in you? Why or why not?” I think this structure will lead to a very unique and beneficial conversation.
